Spring in Kaltern by the Lake

Spring arrives in South Tyrol’s South earlier than elsewhere. In early march, temperatures invite many cyclists and hikers to admire the awakening of nature around the lake of Kaltern and to wander through blossoming meadows and orchards. The first flowers are blossoming between the lakes of Kaltern and Montiggl.

Holidays in Merano, opposites - perfectly together

Nature and culture, modernism and Art Nouveau, sports and relaxation, bacon and spaghetti: Meran, many differences unite in a fascinating and beautiful symbiosis that satisfies all tastes. This already begins with the type of accomodation you are looking for: from small family hotels in town to hotel accommodation with modern metropolitan style or more traditional hotels, with a typical Tyrolean atmosphere.

Balancing Act between bacon and spaghetti

Even the world of culinary delights in Meran offers visitors a wide range, which combines the best of two culinary cultures in themselves. Here you will find hearty Tyrolean dishes as well as dishes from the Mediterranean, for this is still international cuisine. A good wine from the vineyards around Meran completes every meal perfectly. This versatility is reflected naturally in a wide variety of restaurants: The restaurant with an international atmosphere, the typical Italian trattoria or the cozy Tyrolean Inn.

Sport and Recreation on Meranerisch

Anyone who wants to move, there is a rich field of activity: take a walk around in downtown Meran, amidst beautiful flower beds and plants, or on one of the many hiking trails in the mountains just above the city. Who loves to bike can explore Meran and its immediate surroundings through an extensive network of bicycle lanes or have fun while swimming, climbing rock, riding horseback, play tennis and golf, to name just a few of many possibilities.

In winter, there are many attractive skiing hills to be found around the spa town, and as well as for those who prefer the alpine experience of Nordic skiing. Well-maintained ice skating rinks and the ski resort of Meran 2000 just above the Alpine city.
Good weather is almost always a guarantee, given the 300 days of sunshine a year.

Art, concerts and culinary

There is no boredom in Meran even when you're not such a sporty nature: All year a whole series of international events take place, exciting events such as Haflinger horse racing, music weeks of high caliber, the "MERANOJAZZ Festival", a series of events with famous international artists from the world of jazz, the Meran Grape Festival, Meran International Wine Festival & Culinaria and - last but not least - the romantic Christmas in Meran.

A break for body and soul

With so much activity, a break in between is welcome, for example, in the new modern Therme Meran, which bears the signature of the internationally renowned South Tyrolean interior design architect Matteo Thun - 25 swimming pools, 13 of them indoors, always offer new experiences in water, we also recommend warmly the 1250 sqm sized sauna area. The spa and bathing facilities, as well as the wellness facilities in many hotels and guest houses around Meran use thermal waters, derived from radon. South Tyrolean natural products play an important role in the Spa & Health Centre, they are the basis of the many treatments offered.

The Spring Valley blossoms

The forest of Montiggl is one of the most beautiful sites in our country: the Montiggler lakes and some smaller marshes (eg. Langmoos, Purzelmoos) are glacial in origin. The two Montiggler lakes and about 100 acres of forest are designated as habitats. The forest area is located between the fruit-growing area of the Adige Valley and the wine country Überetsch. The plant communities range from white oak woods and pines to forests of spruce and fir. Particularly rich in species (eg. beech, chestnut, lime, cherry tree) are the shady areas with tritious grounds.

Hiking and biking on your own

In Naturns and surroundings there are a lot of 'insider tips' waiting to be discovered by you: history and tradition, historical farms, (almost) forgotten crafts, herbs from the gardens and their effects, native quality products and their transformation according to traditional recipes, and many specialties from the local farmers to be tasted.
